It’s my favorite book–if only I had time

Anyone interested in a summer reading group of sorts? Check out Korrektiv’s plan to read Walker Percy’s Lost in the Cosmos. Or, even if you’re not into Internet reading groups, get the book and read it anyway. Heck, I’ll buy you a (used) copy if you can’t afford it–drop me a line (I’m serious).

The book’s quirky, even downright weird in places, but it’s the best diagnosis of the (post)modern Western illness ever written. As I get increasingly down in the dumps about the direction our culture is headed, I am drawn back to Percy’s description of the modern self floating adrift in the cosmos. It points me straight back to the harbor that is the Church.
