Eating disorders: a spiritual crisis?

Eye-opening commentary from the Christian Science Monitor. In 12 years, the number of teenage girls who feel they are overweight has gone from 24% to 90%. In 1995, I suppose that a little less than 24% of girls were actually obese, but today, there are nowhere near 90% actually overweight. That misperception is directly the fault of our culture.

I’d suggest that there is something analogous going on with boys, though perhaps they are lagging behind: an obsession with working out. I’d bet, if a similar survey were given, that the percentage of boys who feel themselves to be physically weak and unattractive would be increasing at a similar rate.
