There’s no media bias

I was driving to the lab this morning, listening to NPR as usual, and heard this little exchange between NPR’s Scott Simon and a defense analyst (paraphrased, but pretty close to the actual words):

Defense analyst: “The Army has met, and even exceeded, its recruiting and retention goals for this year.”

Simon: “So, that means the situation is not yet in crisis?”

I’m sorry but I do not connect the Headline to the commentary. Maybe, my head is too fuzzy today from my sinus infection. Could you clarify?

There is no reason to reason from the Army exceeding its recruiting and retention goals to the situation heading toward crisis. If anything, it’s hopeful. Hence, the headline.
