Quote of the Day

I’m re-reading The Screwtape Letters for the first time in a long while, and something CS Lewis wrote in the guise of Screwtape hit home:

Murder is no better than cards if cards can do the trick. Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one–the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts.

I know I often get fixated on the “big” (mortal) sins, which while they surely are more serious and do separate us from God, are also easier to recognize and repent. How much more dangerous in the long run are the little things–the habits and guilty pleasures that shift our focus away from Him and onto ourselves?
