A little piece of Christendom

I was riding around a small town near my hometown today (home for a long weekend), and since I wasn't driving, I could take a more observant look at things.  The sheer number of churches is amazing, everything from a quaint old Catholic church from the turn of the 20th century to an African-American church holding a "Holy Ghost Revival!"  In a more run-down neighborhood, the grandeur of the church buildings points to where people's treasure was, and perhaps still is.  Flannery O'Connor described the South at "Christ-haunted," and nowhere is that more evident than in old urban areas.

After I got home, I ran across an article in the Washington Times that touches on something similar.  We do live in a different world, when compared with the rest of the U.S.  May it always be so.
