I found this short essay by Prof. Robert Miller to be an excellent explanation of why we, as Catholics, are free to disagree with (yet respect) the dominant stance within the Church today on capital punishment, but yet cannot do the same with abortion or euthanasia. Pass it along–we really need to get this distinction in our heads, since it seems like no one around us understands it even slightly, whether they be clergy or laity.
That is a very interesting article, especially since it seems that the controversy never ends over Hussein’s execution. I for one fall into the “poorly catechized” category although I’m trying to change that so thank you.
